Here is one of the first
guitars built under the elRayo Guitarworks namesake. When elRayo
Guitarworks first opened in December of 2004, John Gennaro came
to us looking for a guitar that was geared towards modern sounds.
Luthier Andy Greenberg was excited to build a guitar that was more
special than most off-the-rack offerings.
John's guitar is designed for a modern playing style. We started
with an alder strat body and maple neck with rosewood fingerboard
from Allparts. The neck featured a slim C neck carve for a fast
playing feel. The frets were dressed and crowned to perfection.
Next two EMG 85 pickups were dropped in. EMG 85's a reknowned for
a balanced, powerful tone, largely due in part to the active electronics.
Other hardare included a Wilkinson trem and Grover tuners for consistent
tuning stability. Lastly, a pearloid pickguard and Q-parts celtic
cross knobs add the visual flair.
This guitar proved to be an ideal mate to John's rock-style lead
playing. He was quite pleased with the results, and we stand by
this first example of elRayo Guitarwork's custom building.
