The idea behind this guitar
is apparent to any fan of Jimi Hendrix: a right-handed Olympic White
Strat flipped to play left-handed. J.T. Thomas wanted a guitar that
captured the late '60s vibe of the famous Oly White strat as seen
at Woodstock. This project was an unsual challenge, as luthier Andy
Greenberg needed to not only reverse the setup of the instrument,
but also make it play as smooth as any left-handed guitar.
We began with an alder body and maple one piece neck from All Parts.
One detail not observable through photos is that Andy waited until
he had the right light-weight body to use. The neck was chosen for
both the bullet trussrod adjustment, which greatly simplifies setup
for strats, and a large headstock, just like the one seen so many
decades ago.
A few modern innovations were used to improve playability, such
as the use of Sperzel locking tuners. While any devotee of Hendrix
can abuse a whammy bar, a true musician such as J.T. needed the
guitar to hold its tune in the face of screaming dive bombs. A full
set of Lindy Fralin Blues Special pickups were installed for hotter
output with no microphonic feedback.
J.T. was blown away by the guitar, and we agree. If you have any
